Political Portraits
Curated by Alicia Bruce for 2014 Frames
A selection of photographic work from across the UK which considers the great divide between the people and (some) politicians. Images which have altered public opinion. Do those at 'the top' understand the impact of their actions on those they deem below them? Who is accountable? Who cares? All of the photographers I invited to participate make work which acts as social and political commentary and using multiple platforms to disseminate it. All these works critique austerity and hold a mirror up to the social divides in the United Kingdom. All works are important acts of protest. Please watch the video and then visit the website of the individual photographers to learn more about the images.
Presented at 2014Frames was a diverse selection of critical documentary, fine art, and experimental international photography in a series of public slide shows to take place concurrent to the 2014 Glasgow International Festival of Visual Art with international curators of photography and artists.
The images were presented at CCA Glasgow and Street Level Photoworks, Glasgow in April 2014
Thank you to my invited photographers all of whom raise political awareness and advocate for equality.
